Fifty Ways To Grieve Your Mother

I went to bed early last night and went right to sleep. Next thing I know it's midnight and I'm wide awake. With a song running through my head. A Simon and Garfunkel tune that keeps playing itself over and over, but the words are different. And it goes like this:

There must be fifty ways to grieve your mother
Fifty ways to grieve your mother

Just step on a crack, Jack
Wreck her new van, Stan
You don't need to share toys, Roy
Just go climb a tree
Learn how to cuss, Gus
You don't wanna discuss much
Just set the cat free, Lee
And eat all the cheese

Just start talkin' smack, Jack
Break a new dish, Trish
You don't have to be clean, Jean
Just try to be mean
Hop on the bed, Fred
You don't need to obey much
Just don't brush your teeth, Keith
And then you shall see

There must be fifty ways to grieve your mother
Fifty ways to grieve your mother. . .

Yeah. So anyway. How'd you sleep?

Brenda -

You ain't right.

And I mean that in all the best ways. :-)

The "eat all the cheese" part made me laugh out loud.

Well, I can't tell you how many times in my life I've heard that. Thanks, I think.

I'm tellin' ya, Brenda, the way your mind works keeps me on my toes.

OK, my first thought was oh my gosh, Brenda's lost her mother. Surely not recently or this isn't the post she'd be doing.

Then I remembered past blog conversations (tributes to your mom) where a lot of us suggested you print your post for her and send it to her because she's like my dad - not cyber connected.

So now I'm thinking. The way your mind works keeps me on my toes.

PS - Paul Simon is one of my all time favorites, especially his African stuff. Dates me, I know, but he's a genius.

I guess you know that I will never sing or hear that song ever again without hearing or singing your version, don't you? I'm sitting here shaking my head and laughing at you, girl. I love it!! :-)

OK, I'm sorry...I have never heard that song before. :( But the lyrics are funny! At least you don't wake up with the Dora The Explorer song in your head...and then sing it all day at work! You can tell when co-workers have little ones because they join in! :)

No, Krissy, not Dora the Explorer, but sometimes Bob the Builder. Yes, we can! Funny thing (or sad, depending on how you look at it) is my kids have never watched it.

Brenda,
I love how NOT RIGHT you are. I do grieve when the younguns eat all the cheese! That was seriously funny!

Really, y'all... it's scary being me.

Barb - my mom will be pleased that you thought of her (sorry to alarm you.) And I LOVE Paul Simon.

Diane - laughing AT me? It's okay, my husband does too.

Thanks, Lauren. I've tried normal, but it just doesn't work for me. Not right will have to do.

When you lie there awhile, and your mind just keeps racing, you know - you may as well get up and do something. You've got Mother Brain - again. Unfortunately it doesnt even completely go away when the kids do. It lingers, and rears its ugly head now and then.
