What's in a Name?

Well, Barb's at it again. She does this thing that inspires me to post when I would otherwise have been uninspired. I just love her. Can't you tell? Hers is the first name in my word cloud. You were probably thinking that's just because it's alphabetical, and while that's true, it's also true that we're like twins separated at birth by a few years and biological parents. Seriously! Yeah, I'm the evil one. How'd you know?

Anyway, I love this idea of hers because I've wondered the same thing myself. Not about my own blog, silly. About yours...unless it's, like, your own name or something, of course. If you're like me, choosing the name of your blog was more challenging than you expected.

I had chosen a couple of names that were already taken, so I had to come up with something else. I actually agonized over it, because I wanted it to be just right. It had to convey the peace of resting on God's promises. I wanted it to be welcoming and comfortable, like a front porch. I ran a few ideas past my husband, and when I said "Rocking Chairs and Rainbows?" he said "I like it." So that settled it.

I hope that you get a "come sit a spell" feeling when you visit, that you'll feel comfortable sharing your joys and sorrows with me, and that when you go, it's with the calm assurance that God always keeps his promises.

I'd love to know what inspired the name of your blog. If you would, do a post on your blog, then visit Barb (the good twin) and be sure to leave your link there. I'll come visit. I promise!

Your blog name is two of my many favorite things! Your photo at the top is neat. That's one of my next blog projects is to find a photo for mine. Love your blue photo too, did you do something to it?

No, it came out that way. We used an ancient (circa 1988) Kodak VR35 with 400 speed film.

Thank you for stopping by!

I've seen you comment at Barb's blog but never stopped by. I love your name! It's awesome! I'll be back again soon...

"Resting on God's promises." And here I thought it was all about just getting comfortable. You know, a peaceful easy feeling...on your beautiful front porch.

Rocking Chairs and Rainbows may still very well be the best blog title I've seen. And to think it was the FIRST one I saw. You were my very first connection.

I love that about you, Brenda. No matter what you're going through, you convey a peaceful easy feeling to me because you have a grip on it. And I learn from you, almost daily. You make me stronger.

And I also love that you FINALLY admit you're the evil twin sister.

Hee hee.

I love your picture too- the one of you(black and white is so cool and the front porch scene. It's so relaxing. I have always wanted a front porch to sit out on. Maybe I'll have to get a computer generated one. I've been by a few times but wanted to leave a message this time. Thanks for sharing the meaning behind the name. I love that the hubby helped decide.

Hey I was just looking around Christian Women on Line...and came across your blog. Gotta tell you, that as soon as I saw the red rocking chair and the porch swing - I was already hooked! What a great template! I'm new at all this...so I can't help but admire those that can create a sense of 'come on in', right from the get go! My blog's name - came at a time when I felt like was I trying to be all things to all people - including my 5 children, our church, my husband ( not in that order)our 2 dogs, 2 cats and the goldfish, and not sure sure I was doing any of it well! My name? "Super Mom", of course!!

I love your blog name, Brenda! But I originally thought it was more like a combination of God's promises and motherhood...(hence, rocking chairs)but I suspect it was tiny bit of that, too, right?

I'm not playing officially...but did explain over at Barb's in a reply! (And Barb may be your twin separated at birth, but she's my big-sister-figure-in-bloggy-land-friend!) Oh, and I'm starting to like you, too!

It seems like a long time since I've been by, and it's only been 3 days. Everything's changed in such a short time! Beautiful new look.

That's a really sweet name. It reminds me of childlike awe and wonder (rainbows) as well as the comfort of the porch.

Brenda, First time I heard of Rocking chairs and Rainbows, it's just such an inviting sound, and the more I know about you, the more I want to know. Even when you write of things difficult to deal with, your marvelous sense of humor comes through, and I think that takes courage. We all need some rocking chairs and rainbows, to remind us to not hurry through life.

I love the title. And, I especially love the rocking chairs! Wish I had a porch large enough to put one on. Great play on words.
